The Sporting Lens - Sport has always been a huge part of my life. Now, I get to capture everyone’s special sporting moments.

Born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland, I spent most of my childhood immersed in sport, any sport. Competing in team sports, individuals sports, watching sport, I couldn’t get enough. I was extremely fortunate to have had so many opportunities on my doorstep and supported by my parents spending countless hours taking me to training and competitions. When this wasn’t possible, I’d cycle the 5 miles to the golf course (and back), sometimes with my clubs on my back, so I could practice.

It’s perhaps no surprise then that I graduated as a Physical Education teacher before moving into higher education and ultimately progressing to Director of Sport at one of the world’s leading universities. Concurrently, I worked at the Scottish Institute of Sport as a physical preparation coach, helping support athletes from a wide range of sports excel on the national and global stage.

I fell in love with photography during a trip to Japan more than 20 years ago. I realised my lifelong passion for sport was being matched by the pleasure I’d get from capturing incredible places, beautiful landscapes and special moments. Seeing the results from going out in the cold before dawn to shoot landscapes at their best and capturing the Big 5 in Kruger National Park only fuelled my passion for photography.

Unsurprisingly sports photography has always been a passion. I’ve captured children and adults playing sport for fun, competitive sport and events, and world class athletes.

I’m proud of the journey so far and even more excited for what’s ahead.

Aerial coverage of sports facilities and sports events provides a unique perspective that compliments photography and videography captured at ground level. I’m fully registered and compliant with the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), holding both Flyer and Operator IDs to safely and legally capture stunning aerial footage of your sports facilities and activities.

To ensure I can deliver the experience and fantastic photos every time, I regularly invest in professional quality equipment. I always shoot with 2 cameras, each with backup cards so should there be any issues with a camera or card (it hasn’t happened to me yet) I have a backup to ensure none of your special moments are lost. I also have a wide range of lenses to match to your needs, some of which are shown here. In short, you’re in safe hands.

I’m fully insured and‍ have public liability and professional indemnity insurance.

    If you have any questions or requests for coverage not shown, please do just get in touch, I’d be delighted to help.

  • Nope, absolutely not. I have a candid, natural approach, capturing key moments from your round from a distance. I’ll stay clear of sight lines and use silent shutter settings or shoot only once you’ve struck the ball.

    I understand golf etiquette and work closely with the clubs to ensure my work never impacts on the speed of play

  • All photography and videography related services incl. editing and all travel related expenses (to Scottish destinations) are included in my prices. This is to ensure there’s no hidden costs and to keep things as simple as possible for you.

    There is a booking fee to secure your date with the balance due one month before your trip/event.

  • As a professional photographer and videographer I’m available 7 days a week, throughout the whole year. I shoot across Scotland, the UK and international destinations.

    I manage life’s other important commitments such as being as good a husband and dad as I can be alongside my professional commitments.

  • All photos will be shared on a beautiful personalised interactive gallery experience. This will be crafted for you to enjoy and includes fully processed and downloadable printable high resolution images.

  • I personally review and edit each image and will have your full gallery available within 5-10 days, sometimes even sooner.

  • I’ve been born and bred in Scotland so I’m well accustomed to changeable weather! I’ve also invested in the very best professional equipment which is weather-sealed to ensure we’re all set to go throughout the year. If play is suspended due to severe weather I’ll explore alternative arrangements with you.

    Drone coverage is however, affected by wet weather and any projects we agree to do together will include this caveat in the contract. I’ll do everything possible to deliver and I’ll liaise with you should there be a need to reschedule.

  • Great question! I’m delighted to say this hasn’t happened to me but there is always a chance. I’ve invested in ensuring my equipment is of the highest quality and my cameras have dual card slots in case a card gets corrupted. I use two cameras and I’ve even got a back up on hand so I’m well covered for all eventualities. Spare batteries, multiple lenses and other accessories are all part of my equipment on hand to ensure I deliver the images you’re looking for.
